What this is
A clear quartz tumble is a pocket sized piece of natural sphatik, tumbled smooth. Sphatik is the oldest named crystal in the Indian tradition, the stone the Shivling on a household altar is cut from and the stone a sphatik mala is strung with. This is the same material in a small carried form.
Sphatik, Shiva and the Ishan kona
Ratna shastra places sphatik as the upratna of Shukra, the accepted stand in where the full ratna is not worn, which is why Vrishabh and Tula keep it. On the altar it belongs to Shiva, and Monday is its day. Vastu puts the altar itself in the north east, the Ishan kona, the corner kept light and clean and never crowded, with the person praying facing east or north. The tumble is kept there beside the diya, or carried in the pocket through the day and set back on the altar at night. It is wiped dry on Monday before the diya is lit, and the Shiva mantra is said once.
Where it comes from
Natural sphatik is never perfectly clear. It carries veils, small internal fractures and sometimes a trapped bubble of its own, and those marks are how a real piece is told from moulded glass, which comes out flawless and warms too quickly in the hand. Ours is tumbled from natural rough and identified at Plus Gems Testing Lab, with the report behind a QR code on the packaging.

- Face east or north when you do your puja.
- Carry it in the pocket through the day if you like and set it back on the altar at night.
- On Monday, wipe it with a dry cloth and say the Shiva mantra once, before you light the diya.
- Keep it off the floor and out of the bathroom.
