A natural selenite charging plate is a flat disc carved from a single block of selenite, a soft white stone with a satin grain that runs across the face. It is a resting place, not a stone you carry. Your other pieces sit on it: the tumbles, the mala when the jaap is done, the small yantra, the ring you take off at night.
The Ishan kona and the altar
The plate belongs in the north east, the Ishan kona, which vastu keeps for the puja space of the house. That corner is kept light, clean and uncluttered, water is kept there, heavy things are not, and the altar faces east so the person praying faces east or north. The selenite plate lies flat on that altar or on the shelf just below it. At night the stones are laid on it and picked up again in the morning before the diya is lit. In a house that has no separate puja room, the north east corner of the main room does the same work.
Where it comes from
Selenite is cut from natural white gypsum rough and turned on a wheel, which is why the grain lines never repeat. It is soft, so it is finished by hand rather than machine polished, and it must never be washed: water dulls and eventually dissolves the surface.

- Never wash it with water. Selenite is a soft stone and water spoils the surface. Dry cloth only.
