A red jasper tumble is a pocket sized piece of natural red jasper, tumbled smooth. Jasper is an opaque stone, brick red to deep rust, often marked with darker veining, and it takes a steady matte polish rather than a glassy one.
Mangal and the southern side
Red is Mangal's colour. Mesh and Vrishchik are the rashis Mangal owns, Hanuman is the devta the tradition reads with him, and Tuesday is his day. Vastu gives the south to Mangal and to the fire that sits beside him, which is why the shastra keeps the south wall solid and weighted, puts heavy furniture and the almirah there, and does not open large windows into it. A red jasper tumble is kept on the southern side of the room, on a shelf or a table against that wall, or carried in the pocket through the day and set back there at night.
