A tiger eye tumble is a smooth pocket sized piece of natural banded tiger eye with a moving line of light across it. It is read as a Surya stone, kept in the east of the home where the morning light falls, or carried. Sunday is its day.
What this is
A tiger eye tumble is a pocket sized piece of natural tiger eye, tumbled smooth. The stone has a band of light that slides across the surface as you turn it, which is what gives it the name, and that moving band is the single fastest way to tell a real piece from a moulded imitation.
Surya and the eastern wall
Tiger eye is read as a Surya stone: golden brown, sun coloured, and kept by Singh, the rashi Surya owns. Sunday is its day. Vastu gives the east to Surya. The eastern side of a house is kept open and light, the main door is welcomed there, the morning window is not blocked, and the person doing puja faces east. A tiger eye tumble is kept on that eastern side, on a shelf or a window sill where the first light reaches it, or carried in the pocket and set back there at night. On Sunday it is wiped with a dry cloth and the Surya mantra is read once, usually at sunrise while the light is still soft.
Where it comes from
Real tiger eye is a banded quartz with fine fibres running through it, and it is those fibres that throw the moving line of light. Ours is tumbled from natural rough with no dye and no resin fill. Each lot is identified at Plus Gems Testing Lab and the report is carried behind a QR code on the packaging.
